About Christine Baxter
I have always loved modelling in either clay or wax, and have found many avenues and fields in which to do so, I have worked for the toy and film industry making protoypes of toys and figurines. I have been commissioned by a number of giftware and figurine companies to make naturalistic animals and figures and recently I have set up my own garden sculpture company, as well as producing my own work for galleries. I also from time to time run courses in modelling and casting.
Christine Baxter and Artstone
Christine Baxter is a classically trained sculptor who studied at Camberwell School of Art London. Her company for garden sculptures is Artstone.
Background
Christine over the last 20 yrs has become a well established sculptor and artist and has worked for many years developing prototype sculptures for the gift industry, clients include: Disney, Warner’s, Brit Alcroft, Lucas Films, Wedgwood and many others
Artstone
Now based in a converted barn studio in the Forest of Dean Gloucestershire she has, over the last couple of years been developing a range of individually designed cast stone garden sculpture. Devoting her time to produce three unique collections - The Classic Collection, The Contemporary Fine Art Collection and The Natural Collection - she has also developed a unique, totally weatherproof, antique copper verdigris patina, which to her knowledge is her own invention. The sculptures are also avaliable in two other finishes - bath stone or a dark faux-bronze finish examples of which can be seen on this site.
Going forward
Now joined by photography graduate Pippa Drake – Lee who is now responsible for sales and marketing and working with resident Artisit and Designer Alex Brown, Christine has plans to produce a number of new designs for the Spring Collection 2009. The focus will be on expanding our Contemporary Fine Art Collection. Customer feedback and sales have shown that this is an under represented market and so over the coming Autumn and Winter months our aim is to create new pieces to complement our existing contemporary range.
Our company aims
We want to supply garden sculpture that is of an exceptionally high standard of sculpting, all of unique and individual designs, each sculpture produced by hand from start to end making attention to detail and a quality finish a priority in all we produce.
Commisions
She also undertakes commissions for portrait heads and public sculpture, Signs and commemorative plaques.
Forth coming events
Despite the wet UK summer we have had this year Artstone Sculpture has had a good year so far. Following on from the success of exhibiting at the Malvern Spring Show in May and thrilled with the joint RHS Bronze Medal recieved with Foliation Christine went on to see the unveiling of the Forest Miner she had been commissioned to do. He now stands proudly upon Pan Tod, Ruardean, Gloucestershire - the highest point in The Forest of Dean.
A full range of our sculptures went on to be exhibited at The Royal Welsh Show C/o Kenchester Water Gardens, Herefordshire and with some of Christines now being produced in Bronze the Winter months should also see some of her pieces being exhibited and sold in a number of different art galleries.
With Artstone Sculptures now being stocked and sold in a cross section of establishments - From Garden Centres and Antique Reclamation Yards to a number of Historic Houses and Open Country Gardens (See Retail Outlets) - we have also expanded our workshop to cater for the increased demand on sculpture sales this summer. Seja Smyth came on board in June 08 and works alongside Christine playing a pivitol roll in casting and finishing many of the pieces while keeping the workshop running smoothly and efficiently.
Christine also teaches sculpting - all her students benefit greatly from Christines expertise. Through study, professional practice, self disipline and hard work over the last 2o yrs Christines knowledge, technical and theoretical understanding of classical and contemporary sculpting is something all who attend her classes can learn from.
