ARTSTONE AND THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT:
Artstone is the product a collaboration of two Artists ; Christine Baxter and Alex Brown. Alex Brown and Christine Baxter met at Camberwell School of Art London in the early 1980’s and have been partners in life, art and work ever since.
Before studying at Camberwell Alex worked as a design artist, and with this back ground collaborated with Christine on the design and conception of many of the pieces.
Together Alex and Christine developed Artstone Garden Sculpture, the business that sells Christine’s sculpture. It was Alex’s idea to produce Christine’s high quality sculpting in an affordable material, and to make it available to a wide public, exhibiting the work a number of Country Garden Shows across the country for several years. A strategy that has been a great success.
Both Christine and Alex have a strong appreciation of the aesthetic beauty of the human form and of nature. Artstone sculptures take inspiration from the classical, the human form and objects in nature. - Christine has also developed a totally weatherproof, antique copper verdigris patina, The sculptures are also available in two other finishes - cotswold stone or a dark faux
bronze finish examples of which can be seen on this site.
All Artstone pieces are hand sculpted, moulded, cast then hand finished. All sculptures are open editions, and available in cast stone or bronze. They are also available in a variety of finished including faux bronze, verdigris, or light Cotswold stone. All figures are sculpted from life. Sculptures are currently on display at the studio near Raglan, and during Summer are on permanent display in the grounds of Court Robert Arts.
